Yoga practitioners can receive tremendous benefit from effective assists with a well trained yoga teacher. This workshop is for both teachers and practitioners who would like to deepen their understanding of asana, focusing on the basic (and some advanced where appropriate) techniques of applying safe and practical hands-on assists as well as verbal and energetic assistance.
When done well, hands-on adjustments are an opportunity to retrain neuro-muscular patterns, or ways the body moves or holds itself that we see in yoga students. You will understand the big picture of why, when, and how to apply safe and effective hands-on adjustments, while learning skills that can be applied to all styles of yoga asana practice.
Postures covered will include many found in led public classes today, many from the Ashtanga Vinyasa system 1st and 2nd series, and several others outside of those, with an emphasis on postures which lend themselves to most benefit in receiving assistance.
Course participants will adjust each other, learning a number of different ways of assisting each posture, with time for repetition, feedback and discussion. We will create a safe context to learn adjustments, receive some direct personal help from Steve, especially in our use of body weight instead of strength as both counterbalance and means of adjusting. Keeping ourselves safe is equally important as the recipient.
Led by Steve Rubin, known for his longterm study, practice, and in-depth understanding of many aspects of yoga, cultivating expert touch in helping others utilizing hands-on adjustments.
*Workshop participants are recommended to have already had asana practice that day, so the body is more receptive and malleable to receiving hands on assists.
